Introduction To Various Printing Techniques Used for Custom Paper Gift Box Packaging

There are various printing processes, and different processes will exhibit different effects. Customized paper gift box packaging with different needs will also require different printing techniques. Jewelry gift boxes often require hot stamping technology, while cosmetics gift boxes often use gold and silver cards, which require UV printing. Various materials require more fundamental knowledge and various precautions.

Offset printing

Offset printing is a type of flat printing method that uses rubber based printing plates to transfer images and text onto paper or other materials. The printing process of offset printing involves three main cylinders: plate cylinder, blanket cylinder, and embossing roller. Rubber blanket plays a crucial role in offset printing, as it can compensate for the unevenness of the substrate surface, facilitate sufficient ink transfer, and reduce the transfer of water from the printing plate to the substrate.

Knowledge Point (1)

The advantages of offset printing mainly include full color, wide printing range, high production efficiency, and environmental protection and energy saving.

Offset printing uses wet plate ink, which can ensure that the colors of graphics and text are fuller and the details are clearer, making offset printing significantly advantageous in color expression. In addition, offset printing is suitable for printing various types of products, such as books, magazines, advertisements, etc., and has a wide range of application fields. The automated control system for offset printing machines can quickly complete large-scale printing tasks, greatly improving production efficiency. At the same time, offset printing uses less water-based ink and has less environmental pollution.

Knowledge Point (2)

The image quality of offset printing is high, clearer and sharper than that of letterpress printing, because the rubber blanket can contact the surface texture of the printing material very well.

Ghost shadow, cannon clipping, and bottoming out

Ghosts. People who often read newspapers often find one or several thin lines that are obviously lighter than the printed text and images on some large, solid pictures or mesh decorative blocks in the newspaper. This is called "ghosting", which refers to the origin

Unknown imprints or shadows.

Knowledge Point (1)

Clip gun

Too much paper is sandwiched between the impression cylinder and the rubber roller, triggering the safety sensor to stop the printing machine from rotating upwards.

Knowledge Point (2)

Bottom over

The term for printing accidents refers to the situation where the ink layer is too thick to dry in time, contaminating the back of the paper that is pressed on top.

Knowledge Point (3)

Feimo

The printing machine has a fast speed but the ink consistency is not sufficient, and centrifugal force causes the ink to fly and decrease.

screen printing

Screen printing is a printing technique that uses a screen as a substrate to create a screen printing plate with graphics and text through photosensitive plate making methods, and then uses a scraper to press ink onto the substrate.

Knowledge Point (1)

Screen printing consists of five major elements: screen printing plate, scraper, ink, and printing stage! And the substrate. Its working principle is based on the fact that the mesh holes in the graphic and textual parts of the screen printing plate can pass through ink, while the mesh holes in the non graphic and textual parts cannot pass through ink, thus forming the desired graphic and textual images on the substrate.

Knowledge Point (2)

The history of screen printing can be traced back to the late 19th century. It is a stencil printing technology, known as one of the four major printing methods along with flat printing, embossing, and gravure printing. Although the accuracy of screen printing is lower than that of photochemical method, its process is simple, production efficiency is high, and cost is particularly suitable for mass production. Modern screen printing technology uses photosensitive materials to produce screen printing plates through the method of national plate making, making the printing process more precise and efficient.Glue coating, gloss coating, concave convex plate

Adhesive (film coating) is a transparent plastic film that is hot pressed onto the surface of printed materials to protect and increase gloss (divided into light film and matte film, among which there is also a high-end film called tactile film, which has a good hand feel and is expensive).

Knowledge Point (1)

Polishing, also known as oil painting, is the process of applying a layer of colorless and transparent coating on the surface of printed materials to protect and increase their luster. This process is called polishing. The surface of printed materials such as book covers, posters, calendars, and logos should be polished. There are three ways to polish, namely coating, calendering, and UV polishing, which can increase the moisture resistance, alcohol resistance, durability, stain resistance, and water resistance of printed materials.

Knowledge Point (2)

Concave convex printing creates a sense of relief or indentation on the surface of a printed material, commonly known as embossing or indentation, which requires the use of raised molds.

Hot stamping, flocking, embossing

Embossing technology is a technique that uses concave convex molds to cause plastic deformation of printed materials under certain pressure, thereby artistically processing the surface of printed materials. The surface of the printed product after embossing presents patterns and textures of different depths, with a clear three-dimensional relief effect, increasing the artistic appeal of the printed product.

Knowledge Point (1)

Brush a layer of glue on the surface of the printed product with flocking, and then apply a layer of fluff material to make the surface of the printed product more evenly distributed.

Knowledge Point (2)

The process of transferring metal foil or pigment foil onto the surface of printed or other objects through hot pressing is called foil stamping, commonly known as hot stamping, with the aim of enhancing the decorative effect.

The hot stamping process is a printing technique that utilizes the principle of hot press transfer to transfer the aluminum layer from the electroplated aluminum to the surface of the substrate, creating a special metallic effect. There are several important precautions to avoid during the hot stamping process to ensure the quality and durability of the hot stamping effect

Die cutting, indentation, and stitching (ant line)

Die cutting technology is the process of making specialized die-cutting knives according to the design requirements of printed materials, and then rolling and cutting printed materials or other substrates into the desired shape or cut under pressure to produce finished products.

Knowledge Point (1)

If the pressure paper is too thick or the pulp is too thick for printing, directly folding it will cause the pulp inside to dance out, which will lead to serious damage to the printing and image. And indentation is a good solution to this problem. Pressing can be divided into three types: flat pressing, rolling pressing, and rotary pressing.

Knowledge Point (2)

Antline, also known as dotted line, dotted line, needle thread, dental floss, etc. Often used in the production process of coupon coupons, receipts, tickets, discount cards, etc.

Knowledge Point (3)

Scratching silver ink refers to the easily removable layer of silver ink used to cover passwords (deduction areas) such as lottery tickets, phone cards, and prize tax invoices.

The above is the introduction of various printing processes by ITIS Packaging Factory, hoping to help designers provide correct guidance when customizing paper gift box packaging, and make appropriate printing process choices.
